Dr. Kim will advise you on how to prepare for your mommy tuck procedure – and the other procedures you’ll be having as part of your mommy makeover – during your consultation and pre-op appointments.
The preparations for surgery differ from woman to woman depending on their unique circumstances, but generally, Dr. Kim advises you to maintain your ideal weight before undergoing a “mommy tuck”. Depending on how much weight you intend to lose post-surgery, the results of the procedure may be impacted. Depending on the medications you’re taking, Dr. Kim may advise you to stop taking them before your procedure if you are taking any prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, or supplements.
In case you smoke, Dr. Kim will inform you when to stop before the procedure. It can take longer to heal if you smoke because it contracts blood vessels. Before surgery, lab tests and a medical exam will also be required.
The “Mommy Tuck” Surgery: What to Expect
In our post-op recovery room, our medical staff will keep you comfortable and assess your condition immediately after your surgery. To determine when you are ready to return home, Dr. Kim will examine your incision and your general health. All post-surgical self-care will be reviewed thoroughly before you leave our facility. Arrangements should be made for someone to bring you home since you will not be able to drive. For the first 24 to 48 hours following the procedure, it is recommended that someone you trust stays with you.
As soon as you return home, we recommend that you sit upright while sleeping and sleeping in an upright position rather than lying down. Ice packs can help relieve pain and swelling, so be sure to keep them on hand. Any discomfort you may experience will be controlled by medications prescribed by Dr. Kim.
Watch your incision site closely during your recovery period. Contact our office as soon as anything appears abnormal, and we will provide you with advice.
It is recommended that you refrain from participating in strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects until you have recovered fully. There is no standard recovery time for “mommy tuck” surgery, but most patients take about three weeks to heal fully.
In the End
Your abdominal region will look dramatically different once you are fully recovered. A “mommy lift” usually leaves a woman with a more aesthetically pleasing tummy than she had before pregnancy. In addition to having a trimmer waistline and a more defined abdomen, you will feel more confident about yourself.
